Remembering Lives Lost In The Peshawar School Attack (144 stories)

*May The World’s Darkness Disappear Through The Light Of Mine! May Every Place Light Up With The Sparkling Light Of Mine!*

Some memories are painful; especially memories of the ones we have lost…

Memories of those who meant the world to us; memories of those who were very dear to us. Memories of the ones who meant so much to us can never be erased and they keep coming back to us in form of flashbacks and for that moment everything comes to a standstill and we tend to remember every minute detail of the time we spent with our loved one. And being in that moment is like reliving the past. But when that moment comes to an end we experience sudden anxiety and heartache. And that is when we cry like a child missing how beautiful life was when they were with us.

Here’s to the memories of 16th December; one of the darkest days in the history of Pakistan. A day when we lost 144 beautiful souls!!!

That day our hearts were broken without a warning, no words were spoken when they were taken away from us. A day when nobody knew that something so tragic would happen that it would completely shatter the dreams of many and leave the entire nation weeping.
No one knew that this day would be marked as one of the deadliest days in the history of Pakistan. 16th December, 2014, being the day when darkness descended upon us, the day when the terrorists struck us where it hurts the most, the day when little angels with beaming faces and high hopes went to school never to come back again, the day when barbaric terrorists brutally massacred innocent children and teachers of Army Public School, the day when classrooms and playgrounds turned into slaughterhouse, the day when many families lost hope and faith in humanity, the day which should never be forgotten because if it is, there would lie no difference between us and them, the terrorists. Alongside the number of martyrs the other thing that saddens me is the dying of their dreams and ambitions.

B7xogR4IAAAxYkD

On this day, let us vow to never end our fight against terrorism. Lets fight till the time we are able to completely eradicate terrorism from our motherland. Let us join in prayer for the families of the children who mourn their loss, and for those who make peace possible in our country.

How Hitler revived Germany’s Economy during the Great Economic Depression

The revival of Germany’s economy during Hitler’s era which is known as the Third Reich is my all time favorite topic. The reason for which I am so passionate about writing on Hitler’s era is because history shows a lot of prejudice ignorance and hatred towards his era and completely ignores the prosperity that Germany experienced during his tenure. The story of the Third Reich is completely ignored in regards to the economic prosperity that Germany witnessed even during the global economic paralysis aka The Great Economic Depression.

In my previous article I talked about the true meaning of national socialism and how it led to the unification of Germany as a sovereign nation. The ideology of  National Socialism focused on personal initiative, and taking responsibility, not only for oneself, merely for one’s own benefit, but also for the national community, as well as the environment, and thereby, ensuring the survival, that is, the health and prosperity of the nation and the society as a whole entity, and not merely the ‘survival of the fittest’ and continuous prosperity of the already prosperous, solely to their own advantage.

During the global economic paralysis Hitler’s national socialist party was able to propose and implement policies and projects to effectively tackle the economic downturn. According to John Kenneth, an economist by profession, elimination of unemployment in Germany during the Great Depression without inflation with reliance on civilian activities was a significant accomplishment. Hitler’s regime’s economic policy involved large scale borrowing for public expenditure and at first this was principally for civilian work; rail roads, canals and the Autobahn highway network. By the end of the year 1935, unemployment was at its end in Germany. What fascinates me a great deal is how profoundly and intuitively Hitler understood economics. Hitler also anticipated modern economic policy by recognizing that a rapid approach to full employment was only possible if it was combined with wage and price controls. His goal was not just to make Germany’s economy booming but was also to make the German people have faith in themselves, in their country and its resources. He strongly believed that Germany’s prosperity could be revived only if its people would have confidence in themselves and the regime, as it required both of them to work collaboratively to make Germany great again.

Hitler believed that for reorganizing Germany’s economic structure farmers should be rescued to maintain the nations food supply and, in consequence, the nation’s vital foundation. He said that farmers should be respected and facilitated for their contribution towards the betterment of the country is great. After coming into power, writes Prof. John Garraty, a prominent American historian, Hitler and his new government immediately launched an all-out assault on unemployment. They stimulated private industry through subsidies and tax rebates, encouraged consumer spending by such means as marriage loans, and plunged into the massive public-works program that produced the autobahn (highway system), and housing, railroad and navigation projects. Hitler’s regime kept its promise of improving Germany’s economy in four years and was successful in eradicating unemployment.

Major improvements during Hitler’s regime are as follows:

  • From 1932 to 1938 gross real weekly earnings increased by 21 percent. After taking into account tax and insurance deductions and adjustments to the cost of living, the increase in real weekly earnings during this period was 14 percent.
  • The “normal” work day for most Germans was eight hours, and pay for overtime work was generous. In addition to higher wages, benefits included markedly improved working conditions, such as better health and safety conditions, canteens with subsidized hot meals, athletic fields, parks, subsidized theater performances and concerts, exhibitions, sports and hiking groups, dances, adult education courses, and subsidized tourism.
  • Between 1932 and 1938, the volume of tourism doubled, while automobile ownership during the 1930’s tripled. German motor vehicle production, which included cars made by the US-owned Ford and General Motors (Opel) works, doubled in the five years of 1932 to 1937, while Germany’s motor vehicle exports increased eight-fold. Air passenger traffic in Germany tripled from 1933 to 1937.
  • German business revived and prospered and during the first four years of the National Socialist era, net profits of large corporations quadrupled, and managerial and entrepreneurial income rose by nearly 50 percent.
  • Between 1933 and 1938, according to Niall Ferguson, Germany’s gross domestic product grew, on average, by a remarkable eleven percent a year, with no significant increase in the rate of inflation.
  • Although German businesses flourished, profits were controlled and by law were kept within moderate limits. Beginning in 1934, dividends for stockholders of German corporations were limited to six percent annually. Undistributed profits were invested in Reich government bonds, which had an annual interest yield of six percent, and then, after 1935, of four and a half percent. This policy had the predictable effect of encouraging corporate reinvestment and self-financing, and thereby of reducing borrowing from banks and, more generally, of diminishing the influence of commercial capital.
  • Taxation during Hitler’s regime was progressive as those falling in the higher income band had to pay more tax as compared to those with low incomes.
  • Germany’s crime rate fell during the Hitler years, with significant drops in the rates of murder, robbery, theft and embezzlement.

In a lengthy address to the Reichstag in early 1937, Hitler recalled the promises he had made when his government came into power. He also explained the principles on which his policies were based, and looked back at what had been accomplished in four years. He also said that those who talk about ‘democracies’ and ‘dictatorships’, simply do not understand that a revolution had been carried out in Germany, and the results of which could be considered democratic in the highest sense of the term, if democracy had any real meaning .

In another address two years later, Hitler spoke briefly about his regime’s economic achievement: “I overcame chaos in Germany, restored order, enormously raised production in all fields of our national economy, by strenuous efforts produced substitutes for numerous materials that we lack, encouraged new inventions, developed traffic, caused mighty roads to be built and canals to be dug, called into being gigantic factories, and at the same time endeavored to further the education and culture of our people for the development of our social community. I succeeded in finding useful work once more for the whole of the seven million unemployed, who so touched all our hearts, in keeping the German farmer on his soil in spite of all difficulties, and in saving the land itself for him, in restoring a prosperous German trade, and in promoting traffic to the utmost.”

To conclude, Hitler’s love for Germany and the German people can never be doubted. His intellectual understanding of the world around him is something that has always intrigued me. His commitment and passion towards his goal of making Germany great again was something that made him a unique leader. I therefore believe that the bright side of Hitler’s regime should never be ignored!

A Glimpse Back in the Korean History and What is North Korea Up to Now?

A Glimpse Back in the Korean History and What is North Korea Up to Now?

Ever since North Korea tested her latest intercontinental ballistic missile last month, South Korea and her biggest ally America feel threatened. North Korea’s leader Kim John-Un has increased the number of missile tests since he came into power which was after his father Kim Jong II passed away in the year 2011. The country’s nuclear program was launched in the Soviet era and its first nuclear reactor was constructed in the year 1965, but the first successful nuclear test attempt was carried out in 2006. Despite witnessing sanctions by the UN over nuclear testing in the past, North Korea still continues to conduct more of its ballistic missile tests without fearing the consequences. The most recent threat to North Korea by the UN Security Council would be to ban its exports which are worth one billion. North Koreas response to this threat is still being awaited.

Before going any further it is imperative that we first understand the reasons which led to the division of Korea, reasons of conflict between North and South Korea and why is North Korea seen as a threat to US. During the beginning of the 19th century Korea was more of an isolated state and due to the fear of being exploited or weakened by the empires of that time, it avoided any trade with the outside world.

However, somewhere in the year 1880 the Korean government felt the need of connecting itself to the outside world as it did not want to lag behind other countries in terms of both technology and economy. The first country to have the privilege of signing a peace treaty with Korea was Japan. And then later on, Korea signed treaties with USA, Germany, Britain and France.

The privilege that Japan had over other countries was that it had the greatest influence on Korea. Sometime later, an uprising took place within Korea against Japan and a Japanese military leader was killed. The compensation that Korea had to pay for this was in form of another treaty called “The Treaty of Jemulpo” which increased Japanese influence in Korea.  Increasing Japanese influence meant interference of Japan in both Korea’s internal and external affairs. Japan imposed some radical reforms in the state and took control of Korea’s relations with other countries. However, Japan also got the credit of developing Korea by building bridges, railways and roads. The Japanese also built many factories in Korea. Japan’s plan of completely taking over Korea however failed during the World War II as it lost in the Great War.

From there onwards, the fate of Korea lay in the hands of Russia and US. Prior to the war, Russia and the US had decided to divide Korea into two zones. Korea was divided along an imaginary line, the 38th parallel. Russia took over North Korea and installed a communist government whereas South Korea chose to become a democratic state. In the year 1950, North Korea invaded South Korea and the invasion took the shape of a war as South Korea was helped by US. In 1953 the war ended at a stalemate and a cease fire was signed.

North Korea after the War and to present day

After World War II, North Korea came under the rule of Russia. Russia’s red army trained the South Korean army. In 1946, North Korea’s Communist Party, called the Korean Workers’ Party, was inaugurated. Soviet-backed leadership was installed, including Red Army-trained Kim Il-sung.

In the year 1948, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea was proclaimed, with Kim II-sung installed as the leader. Soviet troops withdrew. After installing a communist government in North Korea, Russia withdrew its forces from there. After a three year war between North and South Korea, a cease-fire was signed between both the countries.

In 1960s, North Korean economy witnessed a boom. The focus of the Korean leaders from day one has been to improve military as an institution and therefore heavy expenditure of the country’s GDP is spent on missiles, and war equipment. One of the reason for which they do this is because they want their enemy to fear them. Despite signing agreements with UN on freezing their nuclear program and other relevant projects, they still continue to do so. Also, North Korea has so far carried out various ballistic missile tests and the most recent one happened last month. USA, by putting sanctions and giving statements against the nuclear capabilities shows how much it fears North Korea.

It would suffice to say that US sees North Korea as a threat to her power and North Korea enjoys frightening US out of her wits by carrying out nuclear tests frequently.

Lawn Industry: A Way Forward

Is the life of a woman in Pakistan just restricted to looking fashionable and pretty? Or is there more to it? Over the last couple of years we have seen a revolution in how women dress themselves and an inevitable hysteria among women regarding clothing brands. Every month we get to know about the launch of some new clothing brand and then further on, the launch of clothes for different seasons in Pakistan. The fact that Pakistan experiences four seasons, namely Summer, Spring, Autumn and Winter has given clothing brands an advantage of launching seasonal collection four to five times a year, Eid collections being an addition to this. Summer collection is always treated as the “MOST WANTED” by the customers and many a times women become impatient when it comes to buying the best “branded” dress for themselves. Also, buying branded clothes with an intention to look better than your aunt’s daughter or with the intention of comparing yourself with the model you saw in a clothing brand’s Ad does not look wise. There has to be a meaningful and a positive approach to why we wear what we wear.

Now there are two campaigns which have been successful in giving meaning to why we wear what we wear. And unlike all the previous clothing brand campaigns their creative idea is unique and more meaningful. Let’s first look at Nishat’s campaign, NL-YOU and how it has associated itself with young female generation of Pakistan. What fascinates me about this campaign is how they have empowered women to feel confident and beautiful in their own skin. Also, the fact that they have taken girls who are not recognized models but are girls who come from different professions like for instance, there is a motorbike enthusiast, who has explored Northern Pakistan on her bike (Zenith Irfan), an illustrator from Peshawar (Saheefa Jabbar Khattak), a head-scarf designer (Mahoor Jamal), virtual artists (Alina Tauseef and Samiha Khan) and so many other girls, who may not be fashion icons but are role models for many young girls in Pakistan.

Nishat-Spring-Summer-Campaign-2017-58.jpg

I believe that we can relate ourselves better with such role models for they are not models obsessed with a perfect body shape or contoured skin, rather girls who have dreams of travelling the world or opting a career which reveals their various skills and capabilities. Another thing that I truly appreciate about this campaign is how women belonging to different social backgrounds have been shown, for instance you see a girl wearing Hijab and then a girl wearing a sleeveless top. This shows that every girl should be given the choice to wear what she is most comfortable wearing and a dress which brings out the best in her. This is indeed a step towards accepting diversity.

Moving on to the second most liked campaign that has addressed the stereotypical imaging of Pakistani women, is that by Gul Ahmad, MeinPerfectHoon. In a very subtle way they have empowered women to feel confident about their so called imperfections, emerging mainly in the form of dark skin tone, crooked nose, and short height etcetera. This campaign is an initiative to change the mindset of people who shatter a woman’s confidence on the basis of unrealistic and self-created beauty standards. Another insight into this campaign is that women should be accepted and respected for who they are and they should be encouraged to follow their dreams and passions rather than restricting their mindset to something as ordinary as looks and beauty. This campaign is a step towards making women realize that beauty is not in the face, rather beauty is a light in the heart!

MeinPerfectHoon

To conclude, both these campaigns have a powerful message to give and I appreciate their step towards giving women more than just clothes; that is to feel confident and beautiful in their own skin. Also, young Pakistani women, especially millennials are driven by career goals, education and values and so the need is to impress them by showing something meaningful and constructive, one which they can relate to.

Take Control Of Your Life!

I feel quite excited while writing this article mainly because this article is going to be motivating and would aid you in making your dreams come to reality by practicing a few steps. I recently watched a TED talk which inspired me to write it.

We often talk about our dreams and passions with our family and friends, and how much we want them to be real, right? There is no doubt in the fact that everything we want or desire is right there in front of us. Now in order to achieve a life that we desire to live, we have to set priorities! Take charge! And train our brain to execute our vision so that we end up celebrating success. But how do we see our vision? We see it through pictures! A picture can create movements; a picture can unite nations; a picture can touch your heart and make you want to do something for humanity.

The impact of a vision in form of a picture does not only help individuals in having a clear direction of what they want in life but it also helps organizations in giving direction to their employees of how they can achieve the desired goals.

To have a better direction of what you want to do the most in life or to make your dreams turn into reality it is important that you draw.

Look at the illustration below and try understanding it.

Three Bold Life Changing Steps!

What do you understand by looking at it? Are any of the problems similar to the ones that you are facing? And look at the 3 arrows that lead to the Desired New Reality. The three bold steps are seen to have made it easy to reach the desired new reality. I have also drawn a visual road map of how I want my future to be like. And I always keep that piece of paper with me all the time, just to remind myself of all the things that I want to accomplish in life. Also, I have filled in the image with lots of colors representing happiness, creativity, freedom and emotions. Make your own road map as it would not just help you in having a better direction of your future but would also guide in figuring out the problems being currently faced by you and finding the possible solutions for them.

Now when you pick up the pen to build your desired new reality make sure that you trick your mind. The right side of our brain always acts as a critic and is forever trying to keep us safe from harm. This part discourages us to move out of our comfort zone. However, when we start imagining things, the right side of our brain gets activated making us creative and showers us with a million positive possibilities and opportunities.

Don’t worry about the things that are bothering you no matter how big and scary they are. Just grab a pen and piece of paper and draw how you want your next day to be like or how you want your future to be like. Once you are done with drawing the most compelling picture of your life start acting upon it!

Become that one person out of ten to make change happen!

Drawing Your Dreams Into Reality!

Maya Angelo once said, “A solitary fantasy can transform a million realities”. Just three bold steps can transform one reality AND THAT IS YOURS!

Dear Pakistan,

I wrote this note for my beloved homeland two years back.

Dear Pakistan,

I know you are tired and I can see you crying. I can see the pain that you have taken to protect your children. And you have borne this pain so patiently for 67 years. You have become so weak and fragile and it’s hard for me to see you this way but you stand all firm as if nothing wrong ever happened.

We your children are lifeless, dull and staring into oblivion. We have hurt you so much and now you stand empty handed, robbed of everything but still your love for us never ends. This is the story of my mother, your mother PAKISTAN!

A land whose soil is damp with the blood of the Shuhada and yet it somehow still manages to survive,

A country where corruption, lies, deceit and hypocrisy exists ; a country that is the reason for both holding our heads up high with pride, and hanging them down with shame; a land where hope and vision are so closely twined together with doubt and fear and uncertainty that sometimes it’s hard to tell where one ends and the other begins; where the heroism of Edhi , Syed Hussain Abbas Shaheed and all the other brave soldiers is tainted by the likes of corrupt leaders and target killers and suicide bombers.

A mother whose only hope lies in the belief that for every criminal and terrorist and Ghaddaar, there is a hero, a Shaheed, a scientist, a philanthropist out there.

Pakistan you have given us so much so silently and I don’t even think we would ever be able to thank you or pay you back for all that you have done for us in the past 67 years. You have breathed in us freedom, given us protection, identity and most importantly a home where we can live.

I am young and not strong enough to change things the way they are but I promise that I will never let you down and you should know that I think about you all the time and about all the sacrifices you have made for us. I know that you are proud of your few brave sons who see giving you protection as their ultimate goal in life, soldiers who make a conscious decision to love their mother every single day.

Students wave Pakistan's national flag while taking part in an anti-American demonstration in Peshawar

So I promise that I will always be there with you! I will never leave you and will try my best to make you proud by uniting your children who are now divided on petty and trivial issues.

Love,

F.k

Significance of Building a Customer-Focused Company the Right Way!

One of the reasons for which I enjoyed taking Sales Force Management course was because our course’s syllabus was not restricted to any one specific course book or a set of ready-made slides, rather we were given the opportunity to read from different authentic forums, make professional presentations and practically apply our learning of both sales force and consumer behavior concepts to practical life.
This course encouraged me to read extensively and to learn more about how companies successfully apply Sales Force Management concepts in collaboration with other relevant strategies. So I recently read this book called Customer Mania which talks about building a Customer-Focused Company the Right Way! The author of the book has highlighted four points which ensure the success of any company, a success which is not just focused on making money but on building strong relations with customers as well. By drawing on examples from the world’s largest restaurant company, Yum! — owner of KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Long John Silver’s, and A&W Restaurants — the authors explain how any company, large or small, can develop a unified, people-first, customer-oriented culture. And the most interesting fact was that all the four steps ensuring the company’s success were people related i.e. the primary resource for the success of any company is its workforce and its customers.

Now let’s talk about the four steps that have been highlighted by Ken Blanchard.  Step one is to set a company’s sight on the right target and vision. Step two is to treat the customers in an amicable way. Step three is to treat the employees in an appropriate manner and the last step is that the company should have a strong type of leadership.

First step states that a customer-focused company with its sight set on the right target should be the Provider of Choice and should focus on taking care of its customers. Secondly, it should be the Employer of Choice and should aim at creating a motivating environment for its people. Thirdly, it should be the Investment of Choice and should have a register go ca-ching. And the most important thing is having an agreed-upon, compelling vision of the company.

Coming towards the second step i.e. treating the customers in an amiable way, the company has to make sure that it does whatever it can to satisfy its customers. This in turn would aid them in acquiring customer loyalty in the future. Blanchard has stated this thing several times in the book that the company should listen to what its customers have to say.  The salesmen should be trained to ask questions from the customers in a polite way so as to gain customer trust.  It is very imperative for every company to be creative in discovering what customers want. After knowing what they want it becomes easy for a company to include their suggestions in the company’s vision. By giving them what they want, a company can create raving fans who would brag about how nicely the company treats them.

Step three is another essential step which is also very much related to what I learned in my sales force management course. This step states that if the company treats the workforce in the right way, only then would the workforce in turn, treat the customers in the right way. For making this cycle work, it is suggested that the company integrates four human systems: recruiting and hiring, training and development, performance management and career planning.  By doing this any company would be successful in recruiting and hiring the right people on the team. Effective training along with constant motivation would help in improving the performance of the workforce. Also, performance management, if done in the right way, would help the workforce in getting help when they need it and in accomplishing their goals which would ultimately lead to the company’s success.

Last of all is having a plausible kind of leadership. There are two aspects of leadership: vision and implementation. While top leadership sets the vision and direction, anyone who is in a position to influence can be a leader. There are two kinds of leaders. Driven leaders who happen to be self-serving whereas as servant leaders are those who take responsibility of developing a compelling vision; then invert the pyramid and move to the bottom as cheerleaders, supporters and encouragers. Every company should remember that leadership is not about them, rather it’s about serving the vision of the company and people who make it come true.

In short, this book helped me in knowing how important it is to focus on good customer service which many businesses fail to focus on. Also, the fact that if one gets the title of a leader, it doesn’t mean that one is all-knowing and omnipotent. Every leader should know the art of identifying the strengths of people around him and bringing out the best in each one of them.

My journey of consumption in a world of brands and products!

Before discussing my own behavior in today’s consumer culture it is pertinent to explain how our society reached the point where we stand now. Consumerism is a phenomenon or a concept where the economy is aggressively directed at selling and spending of consumer goods. The idea is to extract as much revenues from the consumer money as possible. With this agenda in mind, business companies focus on all the segments of the society, especially the middle and upper class, and devise new spells that would attract a common individual to something that is normally not a need but becomes a want for him. This typical behavior is attributed to the capitalistic organizations that were criticized by Karl Marx and were said to hold immense collection of ‘commodities’. Marx rightly criticized this culture on the grounds that these companies when they hold the power of controlling a society’s psyche, give rise to a capitalistic environment that is solely based on greed and selfishness. For launching “wants”, the manufacturers and their marketers devised an environment where each product was assigned a brand name and this name became more appealing than the actual specifications of the product. This new atmosphere came to be known as a consumer culture, where great emphasis was put on lifestyle and where availability of materials and these branded products became the determinants of happiness and satisfaction. As argued by the theory’s proponents, consumer culture no doubt increased people’s spending and thus contributed to the economy’s well-being to some extent, but then it also had horrifying implications as well. The very core of the agenda in favor of consumerism highlighted products and materials as the most important must haves, sidelining the importance of morals or values or even other human beings. When happiness got tied to material possessions, it also encouraged people to spend more than their capability. It was this environment that also led to wide usage of consumer credit cards, and in the end completely handicapped the common individual.

So where do I stand on this timeline of consumer culture? Today when I look around me I see an environment where every other person is struggling to have more. This craving for more is majorly directed at products that are represented by ‘impressive’ brands. This has made one element supersede all other reasons that lead to purchasing. I.e. to stay in trend. By saying this I do not completely negate the existence of brands. I believe that brands should only be followed on the basis of the promise they make and the need they fulfill. They should be followed on rational patterns of decision-making, and products should be the center of focus rather than the brands. Such a practice would result in vigilant consumption by minimizing unnecessary purchasing and thus would completely eliminate the evils of impulse buying. In my case, if ‘Sufi’ promises to provide me with clear and hygienic water, on the grounds that I have my faith in the brand, I would never specify nestle just for the sake of setting up an impression.

Our society today stands at such a miserable stage where peoples’ personalities are being judged on the basis of brands that they consume. The situation has become so pitiable that personality tests have started analyzing people on their preference for either Pepsi or Coca-Cola. This is alarming for a person like me, who never cares about the brand as long as the quality and purpose are fulfilled. My attitude is not completely indifferent to brands around me; I believe that brands, if marketed ethically, portray a picture of the products that they represent. This can give us an idea about the specifications and thus can assist us in making sensible decisions.

Every purchasing decision that we make usually involves external influencing factors that either encourage the product buying process or restrict it. The most widely involved factors, in our society, normally include family, culture and morals. Societies having weak links to their own cultures tend to easily adapt to new behavior patterns introduced by brands. Such societies can easily be manipulated to spend more on unnecessary purchasing. In my situation if the “trendy” ripped and faded jeans are not acceptable in my cultural norms and if my family holds a negative view of them I would not be spending money on these. Likewise, same factors also play their roles in encouraging purchases of specific brands or products. My preference for environment friendly cosmetic products leads me to ‘body shop’ and its product offerings. Body shop uses organic ingredients in all of its products, ensuring product purity. The thing that I like the most about the brand and the reason that I always prefer it over others, is that it strongly condemns animal testing.

I also believe that in a world where marketers are doing whatever they can to manipulate consumers there are pressure groups and organizations that are revealing the unethical marketing practices done by many businesses. A very good example in this context is that of Peta (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) organization that is revealing the darker side of many well-known clothing and cosmetic brands that are exploiting animal rights by using them for their own purposes. I recently watched a video that was uploaded on Peta’s official page showing how the wool industry savagely sheered sheep skin and then distributed it among many clothing brands. Also, in the year 2014 L’Oreal and Victoria’s secret were charged guilty of testing their products on animals. This awareness made me realize that its not just the brand name that one has to look at when it comes to buying a product but the product itself along with many other things.

Being a student of marketing I have to keep myself updated regarding the different market trends, marketing campaigns, brand activations etc. Although there are certain brand advertisements that I like but that does not necessarily mean that I would buy from those specific brands. Before purchasing any product or service there are a lot of things that I have to take into account like its price, quality, convenience, acceptance by my family and society etc. So at the end of the day my purchasing decisions would be different from others as all consumers have their own perceptions, which are directed by a large number of internal as well as external factors.

Brand yourself!

We talk a lot about brands these days right? Many of us seem to be obsessed when it comes to associating ourselves with brands. If the association with a particular brand is successful,we talk positive about it and vice versa.Sometimes we are way too critical about a brand. Here’s an example : I buy a shirt from some brand and it’s quality is not up to the mark or maybe I don’t like the customer service. So if I come out of the shop dissatisfied, this would eventually lead me to speaking negative about the brand with my family and friends which might discourage them from buying from that particular brand. However my experience could be good too which might make me a loyal customer of that brand and so on. So basically we associate ourselves with different brands almost all the time.

Just like these brands we too create an image of ourselves so that makes us brands too. Here’s an example to explain this point. Think of any brand and then what would it be like if it were a human? Coke? For me cokes human version would be a handsome guy who is popular among his friends for being different in a good way! Samsung? A friendly guy who gets along well with everyone! Now you might perceive these brands differently.

Now think of yourself as a brand! We know how important it is to be known to the world for who we truly are; our strengths, skills and abilities. If you are able to brand yourself well then you would have a great demand in the market. Imagine yourself giving an interview to the CEO of some reputable company. The first thing they will look at would be your attire then how you speak and with time they would want to know who you are, what you are good at and what makes you the best candidate for the job?
